Visit
Welcome to Edinburgh Zoo!
Our wildlife conservation charity has a bold vision: a world where nature is protected, valued and loved.
Edinburgh Zoo is a gateway to the natural world where people can experience nature, learn about the challenges facing wildlife and discover how we are working to save animals from extinction.
Food and drink
Edinburgh Zoo has two restaurants, one café and several kiosks offering a wide range of hot and cold food, snacks and drinks. Whatever you fancy, there’s something to suit all tastes!
Maps and guides
Trying to find a tiger? Lost near the lemurs? With over 80 acres of wooded hillside, we want to make sure you don't miss out on seeing your favourite animals!
Daily talks
Curious about animals? Make the most of your visit to Edinburgh Zoo by attending one of our daily animal talks and encounters!
Top tip!
Although we will always do our best to help visitors see as many of our animals as possible, they may well decide to go for a nap or some quiet time in a hidden area.
We recommend visiting different animals at different times of the day to give yourself the best chance of spotting them out and about.
Come along to one of our daily talks, where our keepers will share fun facts about our animals and sometimes feed them, giving you the perfect opportunity to snap some pictures of your visit.
Daily talksWet weather days at the zoo
Don't let the unpredictable Scottish weather stop you visiting some of our loveable furry faces.
There's lots to do at Edinburgh Zoo regardless of the weather, so bring your wellies and a sense of adventure for a ROAR-some day out!
Family days out
If you are planning a family trip to the zoo, we’ve got you covered!
Here’s our top thing’s to do with the kids at the zoo along with some useful tips on how you and the kids can have the wildest day out.
We are open seven days a week (but closed on Christmas Day) and we recommend that everyone, apart from Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) members, should book tickets online in advance to save money and avoid disappointment.
It is really important to be aware of what to expect on the day, including our very limited car parking spaces, queues for entry, popular viewing areas and more.
Tickets are limited and may sell out especially during school holidays and weekends – we recommend that you book your ticket at least two hours before your visit, unless you are a member of RZSS or their guest – see our membership page for more information.
Opening hoursPlease note
We have been made aware of a Facebook page called ‘Zoo Tickets’ and multiple websites which have fraudulently been advertising ‘4 Edinburgh Zoo Tickets’ for £2. The websites then go on to ask for personal details, including payment information.
These ads are fake and are no way affiliated with Edinburgh Zoo. We have reported the websites, Facebook page and its posts and encourage you to do the same. The page has previously used this scam, impersonating other zoos across the UK and is yet to be taken down by Facebook.
Our penguin parade is currently postponed due to the risks of avian flu.
Our lemur walkthrough remains closed.
We may have to close viewing for an animal at short notice for their wellbeing or check-ups by our expert vets and keepers.
