The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) has announced the winner of its Young Conservationist of the Year Award 2023.
James Cubey, 20, was nominated for his commitment as a Conservation Action Team (CAT) youth leader at Edinburgh Zoo and has been engaged with education programmes at RZSS for several years - including CAT, Summer School, Science Summer School and Zoo Studies.
Phill Mathis, learning manager at RZSS, said, "The Young Conservationist of the Year Award is an amazing way to celebrate the contribution of young people who are taking action for wildlife. With more than a million species at risk of extinction, nature needs us all now more than ever.
“We are delighted to recognise James for his incredible commitment to science and wildlife conservation. Young people like James are helping to create a world where everyone protects, values and loves nature.”
RZSS has pledged to create stronger connections with nature for more than a million people by 2030.
