A series of dinosaur events has been launched by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Dinosaurs! at Edinburgh Zoo.
The wildlife conservation charity welcomed over 20 animatronic dinosaurs to the zoo last year and is inviting visitors to travel back in time again this April with a whole host of dino-themed activities.
Steve Brusatte, Professor of Palaeontology and Evolution at the University of Edinburgh, will be marking the launch of Dino-Zone on Saturday 1 April with a children’s talk at 11:30. Dino-Zone is included with day admission and situated within our marquee from 1– 16 April. Steve Brusatte will also be doing an evening talk and book signing at the zoo later on in the month, centred around his best selling book ‘The Rise and Fall of Dinosaurs’.
Lindsay Ross, events and experiences manager at RZSS said, “We are thrilled to be celebrating an almighty first year of Dinosaurs! at Edinburgh Zoo and launching a new series of events for visitors.
“It is fantastic to be able to provide new opportunities for people to learn about these prehistoric giants, how they relate to species that can be found in the zoo today and the actions we can all take to help stop more animals going the way of the dinosaurs.
“There will be a fossil-digging pit, crafts, face-painting and shop in the Dino-Zone alongside a range of talks happening throughout the half-term holidays at our Dinosaurs! exhibit.
“Though the real highlight for dedicated dino-fans could be our special ticketed events with Steve Brusatte who is a specialist on the anatomy, genealogy and evolution of dinosaurs, and was the palaeontology consultant for the film Jurassic World: Dominion.”
The Dino-Zone at Edinburgh Zoo will run from 1 April – 16 April, with an evening talk from Steve Brusatte on Thursday 20 April.
