An Ode to Edinburgh Zoo

O Edinburgh, with hills sae fair,

Thy city’s heart doth boldly dare,

Wi’ castles grand an’ cobbled street,

Where history and grandeur meet.

But ay, my heart does leap wi’ joy,

To roam where beasts an’ birds employ,

A gentle gaze, a watchfu’ eye,

Upon the zoo that stands nearby.

The lions roar wi’ regal might,

Their golden coats, a splendid sight.

An’ yonder, in the wooded glade,

The gibbons swing, their antics played.

Aye, the penguins waddle sleek,

Wi’ stubby legs an’ flippered cheek.

An’ tigers, fierce as winds in gale,

Through lush green grass they sleekly sail.

The monkeys chat wi’ merry glee,

As if the world is theirs to see.

An’ sloths, so slow, an’ wise in calm,

Hang ’mongst the brush, their hearts a balm.

O Edinburgh, thy wild domain,

A place where nature doth remain,

Where creatures roam, both fierce an’ free,

In harmony, for all to see.

May this fair place ne’er know decay,

But live in light, both night an’ day,

For in thy walls, both great an’ small,

The beauty of the Earth we call.

So, here’s to thee, O zoo sae fine,

A treasure set ‘neath Edinburgh’s line,

Wi’ each new dawn, thou art renewed,

A joy to all, sae wild an’ true.
