It's World Penguin Day and we're celebrating our FINtastic penguin species here at Edinburgh Zoo. From cheeky gentoo Kevin, who was banned from our historic penguin parade for nipping the ankles of visitors, to Sir Nils Olav our knighted king penguin, there are so many wonderful personalities here in our colony.

We've compiled a handy guide of all things penguin at RZSS - wild webcams, cracking conservation, flippin' good gifts and more!

Wild webcams

Edinburgh Zoo is home to the largest outdoor penguin pool in Europe, with three different species (gentoo, king and Northern rockhopper) and over 100 individuals, who can all be viewed on our penguin cam.

None of our penguins are camera shy and like to be front and centre for most of the day.

Penguin conservation

RZSS has helped with the conservation of wild rockhopper penguins on Tristan da Cunha for many years, including support to annual surveys, public dissemination of data and information and public engagement. Our RZSS WildGenes team are comparing genetic diversity, population structure and migration patterns within and among subpopulations with an aim to improve conservation strategies for this species.

Love at Penguins Rock

This year, we're going behind-the-scenes of our penguin breeding season to bring you all the latest gossip from Penguins Rock!

With pebble pinching, beaks being turned and love triangles, it's the most exciting time to be a penguin at Edinburgh Zoo.

Make sure you're keeping up-to-date by following along on our social media channels.

Adopt the penguins

Animal adoption is a great way to support our wildlife conservation charity. Treat yourself or buy as a gift for the animal lover in your life!

By purchasing an adoption, you are helping us take care of the animals in our parks as well as support conservation, education and research projects here in Scotland and around the world.
